Congratulations to New Officers!
|
2006-07 will see a revival of the Family Medicine Interest Group at UIUC.
We have monthly meetings planned, tentatively for Thursday evenings. Dinner will generally be provided.
We will have roundtable discussions, guest lecturers, and hands-on workshops. Come to our first meeting
and vote on the topics you would like to see this year! We need medical students to become involved and serve
as officers (time demand will not be taxing - great resume/CV fodder!). But all Residents, medical students,
and pre-med students will be welcome to attend our educational meetings.
Possible topics include: What is Family Medicine?, Family Medicine Fellowships - What can you do?, Strolling through the match: ERAS applications, Rotations, International Medicine, Practicing in Underserved Areas, Family Medicine and Community Health, Future of Family Medicine, Practice Management, Solo Practice, OB in FP, Decision on Specialty, Prevention in FP, Osteoporosis, Rural Medicine, Geriatrics, Joy of FP, Myths of FP, IUDs, AAFP & IAFP activities, Documentation and Coding, psychopharmocology, Evidence-Based Medicine, Summer Externship program for M1s, etc. Possible Hands-ON Worshops Include: OB/GYN exams and procedures, Intubation, I.V. starts, Derm procedures (I & Ds, punches, shaves), Suturing, Reading EKGs, Colposcopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy/Colonoscopy, Sports Med, Nasolaryngoscopy, Joint Injection and Aspiration, Examination Skills of the Musculoskeletal System, and more. |
